The FAA has approved the Aithre Turbo oxygen maker systems for installation in all Part 23 aircraft. Any make, any model, any year, including all Beechcraft, Mooney, Cirrus, Cessna, Diamond, Pipers, and every other aircraft certified and flown under Part 23. The simple installation can be performed by any A&P as a minor alteration under NORSEE.

The Aithre Turbo Oxygen Maker is the World's first oxygen generator optimized specifically for light aircraft and general aviation. With enough oxygen supply to circumnavigate the World many times, the Aithre Turbo Oxygen Maker will unlock your aircraft potential and support your mission, no matter where it takes you.

The Turbo O2i is a hybrid concentrator and bottle system that generates oxygen using 80W of electrical power and only dips into the oxygen bottle supply when needed - at high altitudes or on user request. When the concentrated oxygen supply is sufficient for the mission, the bottled oxygen supply remains unused.

HOW IT WORKS

The Turbo concentrates oxygen real-time while you fly, anytime, anywhere, using a fraction of the capacity of most general aviation electrical alternators. Based on proven pressure swing adsorption technology (PSA), and optimized for general aviation application, the Aithre Turbo packs a punch with continuous >93% pure oxygen at 1.1 - 1.4 LPM using just 6 amps or 80 watts.

A high-performance compressor pump is used to pressurize intake air and feed it through zeolite sieve beds. The sieve beds retain the nitrogen in the air and pass oxygen through the adsorption technique (PSA). PSA is a proven method of oxygen generation in the medical field, but the Turbo is different in that it operates above 10k MSL where the air is thinner.

The Turbo O2i is a hybrid system that combines a concentrator and an oxygen bottle. The concentrator provides virtually unlimited oxygen at 1.1-1.4 LPM to support one person up to 18k MSL and two people up to 15k MSL, without use of the oxygen bottle. The oxygen bottle is on standby to further increase the oxygen flow above 15k MSL, or as needed, for an additional 0.5 - 2.5 LPM.

The oxygen bottle also serves as a backup supply of oxygen independent of the Turbo oxygen maker system. A separate backup plumbing line and emergency cannula plug are included to make oxygen available even in the event of electrical failure or Turbo concentrator malfunction.

Standard with the Turbo O2i is the HealthView avionics system. Along with output of Turbo O2i total flow rate, oxygen injection flow rate, oxygen bottle pressure, and onboard temperature, the HealthView outputs many other health and environmental parameters and allows for control of the injection component.

NO BATTERY TO CHARGE

Unlike medical portable oxygen concentrators, the Turbo does not use a Lithium battery. Instead, the Turbo relies exclusively on ship power 12-14V or 24-28V, using the aircraft battery or engine-driven electrical alternator. At just 80W or approximately 6 amps at 14V supply, the Turbo will fit within virtually any alternator capacity and this results in reduced maintenance, a longer service life, and increased flight safety.

SMALL FOOTPRINT AND WEIGHT

With a small footprint of 22.5 cm x 14.5 cm x 15 cm and a weight of just 6.8 lbs., the Aithre Turbo will free up space and expand useful load as compared to traditional legacy bottle systems.

INSTALLED

The Aithre Turbo features panel-mounted cannula plugs, remote push-button activation, and hidden built-in plumbing.

A unique hook mount system is provided for removably securing the Turbo to a wall, floor, or supporting member. While the Turbo requires intake access to fresh air through its side ports, with center of gravity impact minimized, there are many options for mounting: tail-cone, nose-cone (for pusher or twin-engine aircraft), or the baggage compartment.

A complete plumbing kit is provided with tubing, elbows, branches, panel cannula plugs, and placards. Installation is straightforward: the provided plumbing is routed and secured from the Turbo to each of the stations and the backlit O2 button is electrically routed to the panel.

A standard DSUB HD15 connector on the Turbo consolidates all the power, data, button, and fault wiring into one compact and secure connection.  The DSUB connector kit is included with the system, including the shell, male connector, and a set of male HD crimp pins.

AUTOMATIC DIGITAL FLOW CONTROL OF CONCENTRATED OXYGEN

The Turbo system features automatic digital flow control of concentrated oxygen. Medical concentrators often require user control of an analog flow meter to adjust and set the flow rate and the oxygen concentration. With the Turbo, the flow is set and managed automatically to help support flight safety with predictable and optimized oxygen generation. Simply push the oxygen button and the oxygen is provided to 1.1 - 1.4 LPM at altitudes up to 18k MSL and >93% concentration.

HEALTHVIEW AND AHV AVIONICS

The HealthView is the first dedicated avionics system that both controls oxygen delivery and outputs health information, including gauges for blood oxygen, heart rate, flow rate, cabin pressure, cabin temperature, carbon monoxide, and oxygen bottle pressure. The HealthView is the behind-the-panel data bridge and the AHV is the avionics display.

The HealthView data bridge is compatible with all Aithre devices, including the Shield series of carbon monoxide detectors, the Illyrian oximeter, the Meso oxygen pressure, the Metis wingtip temperature/dewpoint sensor, and the AVI and Turbo oxygen systems.

There are two variants of the HealthView data bridge that are currently available: HealthView II and HealthView III. The main difference is that the HealthView III includes an embedded Shield carbon monoxide detector, hardwired Illyrian connections for wired blood oxygen monitoring, and improved industry standard DSUB connectors.

The AHV avionics displays provide for user facing data output of biometric health information and user control of the oxygen. The AHV is a multi-function instrument that is low profile with high visibility graphics and tactile input controls. The AHV displays are available for standard 2 1/4" or 3 1/8" diameter cutouts or using a camera-style 1/4 stud mount for off-panel mounting.

The AHV avionics displays feature over 60 customizable health fields across 9 pages control of oxygen dosing. Declutter functions enable only the pages and health fields that are appropriate for the number of passengers and Aithre devices detected.

The AHV avionics displays are modular and can be optionally expanded with the Air Avionics AT-1 model transceiver for dual HealthView and COM radio functionality.

ALTUS WIRELESS PRESSURE GAUGE

The Turbo system includes the Aithre Altus Meso tank pressure gauge, which allows for monitoring the oxygen pressure remaining while the bottle is out of sight. Readings from 0-2500 PSI are transmitted to the HealthView and the Aithre Connect iOS app to supplement the analog pressure gauge.

ILLYRIAN OXIMETERS

The Turbo system includes two Illyrian II oximeters for pilot and co-pilot. The Illyrian wearable oximeter provides continuous real-time SPO2 and heart rate information to the HealthView and to the Aithre Connect iOS app. Advanced features include cabin altitude monitoring with haptic vibration feedback.

AITHRE BOOM CANNULAS

While the Turbo system includes two silicone cannulas, the system additionally includes two Aithre Boom Cannulas to make oxygen delivery safer and more comfortable. The Boom Cannula features a low profile aluminum anodized swivel adapter and an articulating boom arm, making oxygen delivery as easy and convenient as talking on the microphone. When not in use, the Boom Arm can be pushed or swiveled up and out of the way and can be easily recharged with a new nasal arm after extended periods of use.

AITHRE SHIELD CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTOR

No oxygen system is complete without the a carbon monoxide detector, so the Turbo system includes the Shield carbon monoxide detector. The Shield CO detectors offer superior 10 year no recalibration service with sensitivity below 10 ppm and responsiveness of under 60 seconds.

CONCENTRATION MONITORING

The oxygen concentration produced by the Aithre Turbo is >93% when new and expected to last for 2000 hours or 2 years or when oxygen concentration is <80%, whichever comes first. There is a decrease of approximately 5-10% per year in concentration output under normal conditions with factors such as infrequent use, dusty environments, and high humidity levels accelerating the decline.  There are two primary methods to verify the concentration and ensure that the Turbo is operating correctly, using the Aithre Illyrian II wearable oximeter and using a portable oxygen concentration tester.

Continuously measured blood oxygen provides a direct indication of the sufficiency of breathing oxygen during flight. The Aithre Illyrian II is the only haptic wearable that provides a continuous readout of blood oxygen to modern avionics, the Aithre HealthView, the Aithre Connect iOS app, and via the native haptic vibratory alerts. It is the best way to monitor your blood oxygen and the verify the flow, concentration, and operation of the Turbo.

Additionally, a portable oxygen concentration tester can be used on the ground prior to flight to test the flow and purity of oxygen generated using the Turbo. The test is simple and takes just seconds to perform using an Aithre provided oxygen concentration tester.

The portable oxygen concentration tester is not included and must be purchased separately.

MAINTENANCE

Nothing is airborne for free, but operation of the Turbo is very cost-effective as compared to FBO transfilling costs. With the Aithre Turbo, there is a sieve bed replacement that will need to occur every 2 years or 2000 hours of usage or when concentration is <80% to ensure high purity oxygen generation. There are two options for the maintenance, including either a mail-in service or a factory refurbished exchange with zero down time. Information on the same is accessible from our website main menu or via the separate maintenance product listings.

SAFETY

There are a number of significant safety benefits of the Turbo.

Notably, the Aithre Turbo does not itself store any pure oxygen so the risks associated with carrying, transporting, and filling pressurized oxygen vessels can be reduced or eliminated.

Additionally, the Aithre Turbo does not include any Lithium battery. While portable oxygen concentrators designed for medical purposes rely upon a Lithium battery, this is unacceptable for aviation environments due to the combination of heat and battery fire risk. The Turbo relies instead on clean continuous power directly from the aircraft alternator, ship battery, and any available backup ship battery.

Other safety features include high temperature Tefzel internal wiring, three high speed cooling fans, over temperature monitoring with over temperature shutdown, and capacitive electrical noise reduction.
