Aithre Twin Turbo Oxygen Maker Installed - O2 Injection (O2i) - 4-Place
Turbo Oxygen Maker Systems are in high demand. Lead time is currently at least 30 days from purchase.
The Aithre Twin Turbo Oxygen Maker with oxygen injection (O2i) is the World's first 4-place oxygen generator system optimized specifically for light aircraft and general aviation. With enough oxygen supply to circumnavigate the World many times, the Aithre Turbo Oxygen Maker will unlock your aircraft potential and support your mission, no matter where it takes you. And now, that mission can be higher with the introduction of the first hybrid concentrator and bottle system.
The Turbo O2i generates oxygen using 80W x 2 (160W total) of electrical power and only dips into the oxygen bottle supply when needed - at high altitudes or on user request. When the concentrated oxygen supply is sufficient for the mission, the bottled oxygen supply remains unused.
HOW IT WORKS
The Twin Turbo O2i is a hybrid system that combines two concentrators and an oxygen bottle. Each concentrator provides virtually unlimited oxygen at 1 LPM to support the pilot and co-pilot up to 18k MSL and four people up to 15k MSL, without use of the oxygen bottle. The oxygen bottle is on standby to further increase the oxygen flow above 15k MSL, or as needed, for an additional 0.5 - 2.5 LPM.
The bottle oxygen endurance depends largely on the altitude, bottle size, and number of users. Included with the Twin Turbo O2i is an ultra compact 47L oxygen bottle, which can be upgraded to a larger size if needed. With flights below 18k for one or 15k for two, the bottled oxygen endurance is nearly infinite as the concentrator supplies all the needed oxygen using PSA oxygen concentration technology. With the oxygen injection mode activated, the provided 47L composite bottle supplies an additional flow of 0.5 LPM - 1 LPM.
The oxygen bottle also serves as a backup supply of oxygen independent of the Twin Turbo oxygen maker system. A separate backup plumbing line and emergency cannula plug are included to make oxygen available even in the event of electrical failure or Twin Turbo concentrator malfunction.
Standard with the Twin Turbo O2i is the HealthView avionics system. Along with output of each Turbo O2i total flow rate, oxygen injection flow rate, oxygen bottle pressure, and onboard temperature, the HealthView controls both Turbo O2i with an AUTO mode button that regulates the oxygen injection above 15k MSL.
CONCENTRATOR SYSTEM
The Twin Turbo O2i concentrates oxygen real-time while you fly, anytime, anywhere, using a fraction of the capacity of most general aviation electrical alternators. Based on proven pressure swing adsorption technology (PSA), and optimized for general aviation application, each Turbo O2i packs a punch with continuous >93% pure oxygen at 1 LPM using just 6 amps or 80 watts with 12-14V aircraft power.
A high-performance compressor pump is used to pressurize intake air and feed it through zeolite sieve beds. The sieve beds retain the nitrogen in the air and pass oxygen through the adsorption technique (PSA). PSA is a proven method of oxygen generation in the medical field, but the Turbo is different in that it operates above 10k MSL where the air is thinner.
OXYGEN INJECTION SYSTEM
Any Aithre bottle may be used with the Twin Turbo O2i; however, the 47L bottle is included with the system. Constructed from lightweight composite carbon fiber with an aluminum lining, the 47L bottle offers a 2000 PSI working pressure and includes a built-in backup adjustable flow regulator.
The Aithre 47L bottle includes a standard CGA-540 fill port, but it is one-way and doesn't require removal of any parts to fill. An elegant metal handle provides enhanced protection against impact.
There are two output ports on the regulator. The first output port is used for backup and allows for continuous flow settings of 0.5-15 LPM. The second output port is an always-on port that connects to each Turbo O2i.
The Aithre 47L bottle includes the standard analog pressure gauge, and also the Aithre Meso wireless pressure gauge. This provides 0-2500 PSI readings to the Healthview and to the Aithre Connect iOS app in increments of 10 PSI to permit remote pressure monitoring.
NO BATTERY TO CHARGE
Unlike medical portable oxygen concentrators, the Twin Turbo O2i does not use a Lithium battery. Instead, each Turbo O2i relies exclusively on ship power 12-14V, using the aircraft battery or engine-driven electrical alternator. At just 80W each (160W total) or approximately 12 amps at a 14V supply, the Turbo will fit within virtually any alternator capacity, and this results in reduced maintenance, a longer service life, and increased flight safety.
SMALL FOOTPRINT AND WEIGHT
Each Turbo O2i includes a small footprint of 22.5 cm x 14.5 cm x 15 cm and a weight of just 6.8 lbs., plus the bottle size at 6.5 cm x 33 cm overall and 3 lbs filled. Despite the 17 lbs combined weight, the Aithre Twin Turbo O2i will free up space and expand useful load as compared to traditional legacy bottle systems.
INSTALLED FOR EXPERIMENTAL AIRCRAFT
The Aithre Twin Turbo O2i features panel-mounted cannula plugs, remote independent push-button activation, hidden built-in plumbing, and the HealthView avionics system.
A unique hook mount system is provided for removably securing each Turbo O2i to a wall, floor, or supporting member. While each Turbo O2i requires intake access to fresh air through its side ports, with center of gravity impact minimized, there are many options for mounting: tail-cone, nose-cone (for pusher or twin-engine aircraft), or the baggage compartment.
A rubber quick release mount is provided to removably secure the 47L oxygen bottle in the baggage compartment or in another accessible location. With quick release bulkhead fittings, the 47L bottle can be easily removed for transfilling and reconnected to a remotely located set of Turbo O2i.
A complete plumbing kit is provided with tubing, elbows, branches, panel cannula plugs, and placards. Installation is straightforward: the provided plumbing is routed and secured from each Turbo O2i to the stations and the backlit O2 buttons are electrically routed to the panel. The HealthView is installed in the panel and the bottle is connected via quick release connections to each Turbo O2i. The backup line is then run independently from the oxygen bottle to the provided emergency backup port.
AUTOMATIC DIGITAL FLOW CONTROL OF CONCENTRATED OXYGEN
Each Turbo O2i features automatic digital flow control of concentrated oxygen. Medical concentrators require user control of an analog flow meter to adjust and set the flow rate and the oxygen concentration. With the Turbo O2i, the flow is set and managed automatically to help support flight safety with predictable and optimized oxygen generation. Simply push the oxygen button and each Turbo O2i provides oxygen to 1 LPM at altitudes up to 18k MSL and >93% concentration.
BOTTLED OXYGEN INJECTION CONTROL
Oxygen injection is default off, unless requested in the Aithre Connect app or the Healthview. The request in the Healthview is made via a simple AUTO mode soft button switch, which begins oxygen injection for each Turbo O2i above 15k MSL at 0.5 LPM with increases to 1 LPM at 18k MSL, for a combined concentrator - injection flow of 2 LPM at 18k MSL per Turbo O2i. The Aithre Connect iOS app provides enhanced control over oxygen injection. In addition to AUTO mode, the Aithre Connect app enables injection at all altitudes with the ON mode. Also using the Aithre Connect app, the dosing algorithm can be scaled from 5% to 200% to fine-tune control of the oxygen injection.
HEALTHVIEW, AITHRE CONNECT iOS, AND AVIONICS SUPPORT
Aithre has pioneered the integration of health biometrics into the avionics of the aircraft, and the Turbo is no exception: each Turbo O2i constantly monitors total flow, onboard temperature, pressure altitude, oxygen injection flow, bottle oxygen pressure, and faults. Data is output via serial to a dual channel version of the Aithre Healthview and via BLE to the Aithre Connect iOS app. For supporting avionics, a discrete output 0-12V may be connected for each Turbo O2i to throw a display message in response to a fault condition.
CONCENTRATION MONITORING
The oxygen concentration produced by the Aithre Turbo O2i is >93% for 2000 hours or 2 years, whichever comes first. There are two primary methods to verify the concentration and ensure that the Turbo O2i is operating correctly, using the Aithre Illyrian II wearable oximeter and using a portable oxygen concentration tester.
Continuously measured blood oxygen provides a direct indication of the sufficiency of breathing oxygen during flight. The Aithre Illyrian II is the only haptic wearable that provides a continuous readout of blood oxygen to modern avionics, the Aithre Healthview, the Aithre Connect iOS app, and via native haptic vibratory alerts. It is the best way to monitor your blood oxygen and verify the flow, concentration, and operation of the Turbo O2i.
Additionally, a portable oxygen concentration tester can be used on the ground prior to flight to test the purity of oxygen generated using the Turbo O2i.
The Aithre Illyrian II and portable oxygen concentration tester are not included and must be purchased separately.
MAINTENANCE
Nothing is airborne for free, but operation of the Turbo O2i is very cost-effective as compared to FBO transfilling costs. With the Aithre Turbo, there is a sieve bed replacement that will need to occur every 2 years or 2000 hours of usage to ensure high purity oxygen generation. There are two options for the maintenance, including either a mail-in service or a factory refurbished exchange with zero down time. Information on the same is accessible from our website main menu or via the separate maintenance product listings.
The oxygen bottle also requires regular filling, which can range from never to as frequently as consumed. The carbon fiber bottle includes a 5 year hydrostatic testing requirement and an overall lifespan of 15 years.
SAFETY
There are a number of significant safety benefits of the Twin Turbo O2i.
Notably, the Aithre Twin Turbo O2i does not itself store any pure oxygen so the risks associated with carrying, transporting, and filling pressurized oxygen vessels can be reduced using a smaller oxygen bottle.
Additionally, the Aithre Twin Turbo O2i does not include any Lithium battery. While portable oxygen concentrators designed for medical purposes rely upon a Lithium battery, this is unacceptable for aviation environments due to the combination of oxygen, heat, and battery fire risk. The Turbo O2i relies instead on fused continuous power directly from the aircraft alternator, ship battery, and any backup ship battery available.
Other safety features include high temperature Tefzel internal wiring, three high speed cooling fans, over-temperature monitoring with auto shutdown, and capacitive electrical noise reduction.
